India’s preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 will continue without disruption despite growing uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in their high-voltage group match, T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has said.
Speaking during the captains’ conference before the tournament, Suryakumar underlined that India has no intention of altering its schedule or approach, regardless of Pakistan’s stance. He stressed that the situation was beyond India’s control and reiterated that the team would remain ready to play.
“Our position is straightforward. We never declined to face Pakistan — they chose not to. Our travel plans are confirmed, and we will be in Colombo fully prepared,” he said, adding that India’s focus remains firmly on match readiness and tournament protocols.
Reports indicate that India will strictly follow ICC guidelines, which include being present at the venue on match day, attending official practice sessions, and fulfilling media duties. If Pakistan does not turn up for the fixture, the match referee will determine the outcome under ICC regulations, which could result in a walkover.
Pakistan’s government has stated that the national team will take part in the tournament but will boycott the match against India, a decision that has intensified speculation around the marquee encounter.
India’s group-stage journey begins with a match against the USA on February 7 in Mumbai, followed by Namibia on February 12 in New Delhi. The highly anticipated India–Pakistan fixture is scheduled for February 15 in Colombo, before India conclude their group matches against the Netherlands on February 18 in Ahmedabad.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 8 stage, with the best-performing sides advancing to the semi-finals and final. While a possible India–Pakistan showdown later in the tournament cannot be ruled out, Pakistan’s position on participating in such a scenario remains uncertain.
For India, however, the message is clear: preparation, discipline, and adherence to ICC rules will take priority over external distractions.
