Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has sparked fresh controversy by advocating for the return of the three farm reform laws, which were repealed after widespread protests by farmers. Her remarks, however, drew criticism from her own party, the BJP, which swiftly distanced itself from her statements.

On Tuesday, the BJP clarified that Ranaut's comments were made in her personal capacity and did not reflect the party’s official stance. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia emphasized that the views expressed by Ranaut were "personal" and not representative of the party's position on the farm laws.

In response to the backlash, Ranaut took to social media platform X, reiterating that her opinions on the farm laws were her own and not linked to the party. "Absolutely, my views on Farmers Laws are personal, and they don’t represent the party’s stand on those Bills. Thanks," she wrote.

The controversy erupted earlier when Ranaut, during a media interview, suggested that the farm laws should be reinstated, and urged farmers to demand their return. She argued that the laws had been beneficial for farmers, and that their repeal was the result of protests in certain regions.

Ranaut further added, "Farmers are a key pillar of the nation's growth. I appeal to them to ask for these laws back, as they were designed for their benefit."

Following backlash from the BJP, Mandi Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut publicly apologized for her comments regarding the farm laws, stating, "I take my words back."

In a video message, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia clarified that Ranaut's remarks were her personal opinion and did not reflect the party's stance on the issue.

Acknowledging the criticism, Ranaut expressed regret, saying, "My remark has disappointed several people." She emphasized her dual role as both an actor and a politician, reminding herself that her views should align with party values rather than be purely personal.

While she recognized the initial support for the farm laws, Ranaut stressed the importance of respecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to repeal them. "If I have disappointed anyone with my views and words, I am sorry for that. I take my words back," she reiterated, highlighting the collective responsibility of BJP members to uphold the Prime Minister’s judgment.

This is not the first time the BJP has had to distance itself from Ranaut's controversial remarks. Last month, she faced backlash for comments related to the farmers' protests, where she compared the situation to a potential "Bangladesh-like scenario" in India, alleging violence and misconduct at protest sites. The BJP had similarly urged her to exercise caution in making public statements.
