Karan Johar is set to bring Koffee With Karan to an end. The filmmaker and host has announced that the popular celebrity chat show will return with its ninth and final season, premiering on JioHotstar on October 14.

Johar made the announcement through a new promo that looks back at the show's more than two-decade journey, from its debut in 2004 to its many headline-making conversations with Bollywood's biggest names.

In the promo, Johar reflects on the controversies that have become closely associated with the show over the years. He references the backlash over some of his own remarks as well as comments made by guests, including the recurring debate around nepotism.

"I nearly put an end to the careers of national icons. I'm living with the word 'nepotism' even today. 'Conjecture' became a kind of a national word. So much happened," Johar says.

Over the years, Koffee With Karan has become a prominent part of Bollywood's celebrity culture. Its format — two stars, candid conversations and a rapid-fire round — has regularly produced moments that extended far beyond the show itself.

Comments made on the famous couch have often sparked social media debates, news headlines and discussions about celebrity relationships, rivalries and professional lives. The rapid-fire segment, in particular, became one of the show's most recognisable features, with unexpected answers frequently becoming talking points after episodes aired.

The show has also witnessed changing relationships among its guests. Johar's promo highlights how some celebrities appeared as friends, while others later became partners, ex-partners or married couples. Across the seasons, the programme has also generated a large collection of memes and pop-culture moments.

Reflecting on the decision to end the show, Johar says some journeys eventually reach a point where it becomes time to move on.

"There are some journeys you don't plan to end, you simply know, somewhere deep within you, when it is time to let them go," he says.

Johar also credits the show for giving him friendships and memories, while acknowledging the controversies and unpredictable moments that came with it.

The filmmaker says the audience has played a major role in keeping the programme going through the years.

"They have laughed with us, debated us, trolled us, celebrated us and, most importantly, kept coming back for another cup," Johar says in the promo.

As he prepares for the final season, Johar describes the farewell as emotional but fitting. He says the last chapter is his way of thanking everyone who helped make the show what it became.

"Saying goodbye is emotional, but it also feels right," Johar says. "This final season is my way of raising the mug one last time with gratitude, with love and with everyone who has made Koffee With Karan what it is."

The ninth season will premiere on JioHotstar on October 14. While details about the guest lineup have not been revealed in the announcement, the final season is expected to bring the show's signature mix of celebrity conversations, rapid-fire questions and candid revelations back to the screen.

After more than 20 years, Johar is preparing to serve his final cup of Koffee With Karan.
