Indian-origin Kash Patel has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Following his confirmation on Thursday, Patel expressed gratitude and outlined his vision to restore transparency, accountability, and justice within the agency.

In a message shared on X, Patel thanked former President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi for their trust and support. "It is an honor to serve as the ninth Director of the FBI. My deepest gratitude to President Trump and Attorney General Bondi for their unwavering confidence in me," he stated.

Acknowledging the FBI’s long-standing history, Patel stressed the need to rebuild public trust in the institution. "From the legendary ‘G-Men’ to the crucial role it played post-9/11, the FBI has a rich legacy. However, the politicization of our justice system has weakened public faith. That changes today," he declared.

Patel pledged to work alongside FBI personnel and law enforcement partners to restore the agency’s integrity. "Our goal is to rebuild an FBI that Americans can take pride in. To those who threaten our nation’s security—consider this a warning. We will track you down wherever you are. Mission First. America Always. Let’s get to work," he affirmed.

According to NBC News, Patel’s confirmation came after a closely contested vote in the Senate. The decision passed by a narrow 51-49 margin, with all Democratic senators opposing his appointment. Republican senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine also voted against Patel. However, he secured support from the rest of the Republican caucus, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who had opposed some of Trump’s previous nominees.
