Katy Perry Joins Blue Origin’s First All-Female Space Mission
Pop icon Katy Perry will be part of Blue Origin’s NS-31 mission, marking the first all-women spaceflight since 1963
28-02-2025Singer Katy Perry is set to make history as a crew member on Blue Origin’s upcoming NS-31 mission, which will feature an all-female team aboard the New Shepard spacecraft.
Scheduled for spring 2025, this mission will be the first all-women spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova’s groundbreaking solo journey in 1963. Perry, one of the world’s top-selling female artists with over 115 billion streams, expressed her excitement about the opportunity. “I hope this inspires my daughter and others to reach for the stars—both literally and figuratively,” she said in a statement from Blue Origin.
The mission is being led by Lauren Sanchez, journalist and fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who played a key role in assembling the team. Joining them are CBS anchor Gayle King, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, producer Kerianne Flynn, and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe. Each member brings a unique background, aiming to inspire future explorers and promote a broader understanding of Earth.
Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket is designed for suborbital space travel, offering passengers a brief yet breathtaking experience beyond the Kármán line—the recognized boundary of space. During the journey, the crew will experience about four minutes of weightlessness and stunning views of Earth.
This will be Blue Origin’s eleventh human spaceflight, following previous missions that carried high-profile passengers such as actor William Shatner and former NFL star Michael Strahan.
Beyond her music career, Perry is known for her philanthropic work. As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and founder of the Firework Foundation, she actively supports arts education and empowerment for underprivileged children.
