Madhya Pradesh High Court Deems Hindu-Muslim Marriage Invalid under Personal Law

The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that a marriage between a Muslim man and a Hindu woman is not valid under Muslim personal law, despite their intention to register it under the Special Marriage Act

The Madhya Pradesh High Court recently made a significant ruling regarding the validity of a marriage between a Muslim man and a Hindu woman.

According to the court, such a marriage would be considered "irregular" under Muslim personal law, even if registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.

The ruling came in response to a plea filed by a couple seeking police protection to register their inter-faith marriage.

Despite their desire to marry under the Special Marriage Act without converting religions, the court dismissed their plea, stating that such marriages would not legalize unions prohibited under personal law.

Additionally, the court noted that the couple did not express interest in either converting religions or entering a live-in relationship, leading to the dismissal of their plea.
