Following the Trinamool Congress's significant victory over the BJP in West Bengal, party chief Mamata Banerjee has hinted at the potential ascendancy of the INDIA bloc at the Centre, emphasizing the transient nature of governments. Speaking after a Trinamool Parliamentary Party meeting, Banerjee declared the party's boycott of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's oath-taking ceremony, citing concerns over the formation of the government through "illegal and undemocratic" means.

With the BJP falling short of the majority mark by 32 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, Banerjee mocked the party's reliance on allies like Chandrababu Naidu's TDP and Nitish Kumar's JDU. She underscored the unpredictability of political dynamics, suggesting the imminent emergence of a new government led by the INDIA alliance.

Despite the INDIA bloc securing 232 Lok Sabha seats, the alliance remains significantly short of a majority. Nevertheless, Banerjee and other alliance leaders have hinted at their potential to form a government, echoing Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge's assertion of the people's desire for an alternative to BJP rule.

Maintaining her criticism of the BJP, Banerjee called for the repeal of laws such as the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), passed through "brute force." Refusing to attend the oath-taking ceremony, she accused the BJP of resorting to divisive tactics and expressed confidence in the internal discontent within the party.

Banerjee extended an invitation to all INDIA bloc members to convene in Kolkata, emphasizing the state's pivotal role in the electoral process. With the Trinamool Congress securing 29 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, Banerjee reinforced her party's strengthened position in the state.

At the Trinamool Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, Banerjee was elected chairperson, with Sudip Bandyopadhyay appointed as the leader in the Lok Sabha and Derek O'Brien leading the party in the Rajya Sabha. This leadership transition reflects the party's readiness to navigate the evolving political landscape at both the national and state levels.
