In a disturbing incident that has triggered public fury, a man in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district allegedly gunned down more than 25 stray dogs over two days, August 2 and 3. The suspect, identified as Sheochand Bavaria from Dumra village, was reportedly seen roaming the area armed with a rifle, shooting dogs in broad daylight—a scene captured in a now-viral video.
The footage, which has circulated widely on social media, shows two men riding a motorcycle and targeting the animals at close range. Bloodied dog carcasses can be seen scattered across the village streets and fields. A third individual, seen on a separate bike and believed to be filming the act, is also under scrutiny. Authorities are trying to determine if he was complicit.
According to Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay, an official complaint was filed on August 4 after the shocking visuals came to light. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. Bavaria, however, has yet to be apprehended.
“The video from Kumawas village is extremely disturbing. We acted swiftly upon receiving the information and launched a full investigation,” said Upadhyay.
Animal rights activists and locals have expressed deep anger over the incident, demanding swift and stern action. Several residents have reportedly escalated the matter to central government officials and ministries, seeking justice for the cruelty inflicted.
Police have assured that efforts are underway to arrest Bavaria and identify any other individuals involved in the act.
