Following her recent exit from the reality show Bigg Boss 20, Olympic medal-winning boxer Mary Kom opened up about the 2014 Hindi film based on her life. The legendary athlete stated that the Priyanka Chopra-starrer captured only a fraction of her actual reality and called the portrayal largely inaccurate.
According to Kom, the Omung Kumar-directed feature captured barely 10 percent of the immense physical and personal hardships she endured throughout her career. Advising fans to pick up her autobiography Unbreakable instead to grasp the true extent of her journey, she dismissed the need for any cinematic sequel, noting that her key sporting achievements are already documented.
The project has previously drawn discussion around casting decisions. In a 2022 retrospective interview, Chopra herself acknowledged that a performer from Northeast India would have been a more appropriate choice to play the Manipuri champion, despite the intense physical and personal preparation she undertook for the award-winning role.
