Mihir Shah, son of a Shiv Sena leader, was arrested for allegedly causing a fatal accident in Worli, Mumbai
09-07-2024Mihir Shah, the prime suspect in the Worli hit-and-run case, was apprehended on Tuesday. He had been on the run since July 7, following an incident where he allegedly crashed his BMW into a scooter, resulting in the death of a woman.
Mihir, 24, is the son of Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena leader affiliated with the Eknath Shinde faction. Rajesh Shah was detained by Worli police but was granted bail on Monday.
The incident occurred on the morning of July 7 on Annie Besant Road in Worli, where a BMW collided with a scooter carrying a couple. The accident led to the death of Kaveri Nakhwa, while her husband Pradip sustained injuries.
Mihir Shah was reportedly driving the BMW, with his driver Rajrishi Bidawat in the passenger seat. The vehicle was later discovered abandoned in Kala Nagar, Bandra East.
Mihir Shah faces charges under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita, including 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 281 (rash and negligent driving endangering human life), 125-B (endangering life and personal safety), 238, and 324(4) (committing mischief causing loss and damage). Additionally, he has been charged under Sections 184, 134A, 134B, and 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police reports suggest that Rajesh Shah contacted his son Mihir after the accident and allegedly instructed him to switch places with the driver. This was purportedly part of a plan to blame the driver and protect Mihir.
