Mild Earthquake Jolts Delhi-NCR; No Damage Reported
A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Haryana’s Jhajjar district on Thursday morning, shaking Delhi and nearby regions without causing any reported damage
10-07-2025Residents in Delhi and surrounding areas experienced mild tremors on Thursday morning after an earthquake struck Haryana’s Jhajjar district, located around 60 km from the national capital. According to the National Center for Seismology, the quake, measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale, occurred at 9:04 am and was felt across the Delhi-NCR region.
Tremors were reported in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, as well as Haryana towns such as Sonipat, Rohtak, and Hisar. Social media users shared brief videos and personal accounts of shaking objects and swaying ceiling fans as the quake jolted homes and offices.
Jhajjar, which falls within the National Capital Region, was the epicentre of the tremor. Despite the sudden quake, no damage or casualties were reported. Delhi Police confirmed on X (formerly Twitter), “There have been no reports of destruction due to the earthquake in Delhi-NCR. We wish everyone safety and well-being.”
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) took to social media to share safety guidelines for dealing with earthquakes—advising citizens on precautions to take before, during, and after such events.
The tremor follows a day of heavy rainfall in the capital that caused waterlogging and slowed traffic in multiple areas. Delhi’s recent weather has swung between high humidity and intense downpours.
Situated in Seismic Zone IV, Delhi is classified as a region with a moderate risk of earthquakes. The capital frequently experiences tremors due to seismic activity from the Himalayan region and nearby fault lines in Afghanistan and China.
