Telugu actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has filed a defamation lawsuit against Telangana Minister Konda Surekha following her controversial remarks regarding the divorce of his son, Naga Chaitanya, and actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
In the legal complaint, Nagarjuna accused the Minister of making false and damaging statements intended to tarnish the reputation of the Akkineni family. The suit includes both criminal and civil defamation charges, with a demand for financial compensation for the damage caused.
The controversy began when Konda Surekha, who serves as Telangana's Forest and Environment Minister, made allegations during a public event. She linked BRS leader KT Rama Rao to drug-related parties and controversially suggested that his involvement played a role in the divorce of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha. Surekha further claimed that actresses in the Telugu film industry were forced to shorten their careers due to KTR, and even alleged that KTR sought inappropriate favors from the Akkineni family before demolishing the family-owned N-Convention Centre.
Nagarjuna swiftly condemned these statements, calling them "completely irrelevant and false." He urged the Minister to avoid using the lives of film stars to attack political opponents and to respect the privacy of individuals. His son, Naga Chaitanya, shared the legal complaint on social media to express support for his father’s stand.
Naga Chaitanya and Samantha publicly announced their separation in 2021, eventually finalizing their divorce. Recently, Naga Chaitanya became engaged to actress Sobhita Dhulipala in August of this year.
