The mortal remains of those killed in the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam are now being transported back to their hometowns across India, as grieving families and state leaders prepare to bid farewell.
The attack, which targeted Hindu tourists and involved brutal shootings carried out in front of victims’ families, was orchestrated by The Resistance Front — a known proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba. A total of 26 lives were lost in this planned assault on Tuesday, with attackers reportedly confirming the religious identity of their targets before opening fire.
Across the country, heartbreaking scenes are unfolding as loved ones receive the remains of those who perished. Among the victims was Indore’s Sushil Nathaniel, whose body was received by his wife, Jenifer, and son, Nathaniel. Though Sushil identified as a Christian, he was not spared. His daughter, Akansha, suffered a bullet injury to her leg but survived the attack.
In Karnataka, the remains of Manjunath Rao and Bharath Bhushan arrived at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was present to offer condolences and support to the bereaved families.
While Rao’s cremation will take place in Shivamogga, his hometown, Bhushan’s final rites are scheduled in Bengaluru.
The nation continues to reel from the brutal assault, as families across states grapple with loss, shock, and grief.
