The National Commission for Women (NCW) has stepped in over the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, taking suo motu notice of complaints about its content.

In an official statement, the Commission said the track appears to contain objectionable and sexually suggestive elements, which may violate provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act and the POCSO Act.

The panel has issued notices to several individuals linked to the project, including actor-dancer Nora Fatehi, actor Sanjay Dutt, lyricist Raqueeb Alam, producer Venkat K. Narayana, and director Kiran Kumar. They have been directed to appear before the Commission on March 24 with relevant documents, failing which legal action may follow.

The controversy had already intensified earlier when Nora Fatehi addressed the issue publicly. She clarified that she was not familiar with the Kannada version of the song and only realised the nature of the Hindi adaptation later. According to her, she had flagged concerns about the lyrics once she understood them.

The song, featured in the upcoming film KD – The Devil, has faced widespread backlash online for its lyrics and choreography, particularly in its Hindi version. The criticism grew strong enough for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to inform Parliament that the track had been banned. Subsequently, the Hindi version was removed from YouTube.

So far, the makers of the song have not issued an official response following the NCW’s summons. The matter is now expected to be reviewed further when those named appear before the Commission.
