Nepal has increased security along its border with India following the ouster of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, anticipating potential infiltration from the violence-stricken country.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed security agencies to remain on high alert to prevent unauthorized entry through international border areas, according to police sources.
"The Home Ministry has directed security personnel deployed at the borders to take extra precautions against potential illegal entries," a senior official stated. Security forces have been ordered to monitor closely from Kakarbhitta in the East to Lumbini in the West.
Previously, groups of Rohingyas entered Nepal illegally via the Mechi Bridge and other entry points, eventually reaching Kathmandu following Myanmar's military takeover.
Bangladesh has plunged into chaos after Prime Minister Hasina secretly resigned and fled in a military aircraft, leaving the army to manage the ensuing power vacuum. Following her departure, hundreds stormed her residence, vandalizing and looting it, as anti-government protests, which have resulted in over 300 deaths in two weeks, continue to escalate.
