Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced his marriage to journalist Nidhi Razdan, sharing a photograph of the couple on Instagram a day after the wedding. Razdan also confirmed the news on social media, marking a new chapter in their relationship.
Abdullah posted the picture on Saturday with the caption, “A new journey began yesterday”, and tagged Razdan. She acknowledged the announcement on X, where she shared a message addressed to Abdullah: “It’s done, bro”.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of Abdullah’s long-running legal proceedings to dissolve his previous marriage to Payal Abdullah.
On July 31, 2026, the Supreme Court agreed to dissolve their marriage after both parties told the court they had reached a mutual understanding to end the relationship. They also agreed to resolve outstanding disputes and withdraw cases filed against each other.
The matter had reached the Supreme Court after Omar Abdullah challenged a Delhi High Court order that had denied his divorce plea. During the proceedings, both parties submitted a joint application seeking dissolution of the marriage by mutual consent under Article 142 of the Constitution.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the couple, informed the court that they had settled their differences and agreed to bring the marriage to an end.
Omar Abdullah and Payal married in 1994 after meeting while working at The Oberoi hotel in Delhi. They have two sons, Zahir and Zamir.
The couple had been living separately since 2009, with Omar Abdullah publicly announcing their separation in 2011. The Supreme Court had also noted during the proceedings that they had remained apart for several years.
