Leading oncologists have cautioned against following unproven cancer remedies after Congress leader Navjot Sidhu credited his wife’s recovery from stage 4 cancer to dietary changes and natural remedies. In response, Tata Memorial Hospital released a statement dismissing Sidhu’s claims as lacking scientific basis.

Dr. C.S. Pramesh, director of Tata Memorial Hospital, criticized the assertions, saying, "The suggestion that cancer can be cured by avoiding dairy, sugar, and consuming turmeric or neem is not supported by high-quality evidence." The statement was endorsed by 262 current and former oncologists affiliated with the hospital.

Sidhu recently revealed that his wife, Navjot Kaur, had overcome cancer using a regimen of turmeric, neem water, apple cider vinegar, lemon water, and intermittent fasting, along with cutting out sugar and carbohydrates. He claimed she was given just a 5% chance of survival but was discharged from the hospital in 40 days.

However, oncologists emphasized that her recovery was likely due to established medical treatments. “She underwent surgery and chemotherapy—proven, evidence-based approaches to cancer care,” Dr. Pramesh said, adding that such misinformation could mislead other patients into delaying or avoiding effective treatment.

The oncologists reiterated that cancer is treatable when detected early, with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy being the cornerstone of care. They urged patients not to rely on unverified methods, as this could jeopardize their chances of recovery.

Dr. Pramesh also posted a video of Sidhu’s remarks on X (formerly Twitter), warning, “Don’t be fooled by such claims. These recommendations are unscientific and baseless.”

Medical experts emphasized that while lifestyle and diet may play a role in overall health, they cannot replace evidence-based cancer therapies.
