Conan O'Brien made history at the 97th Academy Awards by addressing global audiences in multiple languages, including Hindi, sparking mixed reactions online
03-03-2025Conan O'Brien made history at the 97th Academy Awards by incorporating Hindi into his speech during the event. He acknowledged audiences in Spain, India, and China, addressing them in their respective languages—Spanish, Hindi, and Mandarin.
While speaking in Hindi, he greeted Indian viewers by saying, "Bharat ke logo ko namaskar. Wahan subah ho chuki hai toh mujhe ummeed hai ke aap nashte ke saath Oscars dekh rahe honge" (Greetings to the people of India. It is morning there, so I hope you are watching the Oscars along with your breakfast).
Although his effort was appreciated online, many couldn't help but comment on his pronunciation. One viewer remarked, "Nice attempt, but honestly, Conan completely mispronounced the Hindi greeting!" Another joked, "Conan O'Brien should win an Oscar for best effort in a foreign language! Great try, though the Hindi was definitely a bit off."
O'Brien’s multilingual introduction was a rare and memorable moment at the Oscars.
