In the wake of Sheikh Hasina's resignation and departure from Bangladesh, the country has witnessed a surge in violence, leading to the deaths of more than 20 Awami League leaders and their family members. The unrest, sparked by student protests over a controversial quota system, has intensified since Hasina's exit.
In Satkhira, at least 10 individuals were killed following the Prime Minister's departure. The violence included vandalism and looting of properties owned by Awami League members, according to The Dhaka Tribune.
In Cumilla, 11 people were killed in violent mob attacks. Notably, a three-story house belonging to former councillor Mohammad Shah Alam was set ablaze by attackers. Five teenagers were among the 11 bodies recovered from the house, where those who had taken refuge on the upper floors perished from smoke inhalation and the subsequent fire. Ten others were injured, with one in critical condition in the ICU.
The violence has also led to widespread arson and looting in the areas surrounding Satkhira Sadar and Shyamnagar police stations.
