The Madhya Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment 2025 has underscored the deepening employment crisis in the state, with nearly 9.5 lakh candidates applying for just 7,500 vacancies. Despite the eligibility criteria being limited to a Class 10 pass, the applicant pool includes over 52,000 postgraduates, 33,000 graduates, 12,000 engineers, and nearly 50 PhD holders.
The written examination will be held on October 30, conducted in two sessions — from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Educated Youth Turn to Class 10-Level Jobs
For many candidates, the appeal lies not in the post itself but in the assurance of government employment. Facing limited career opportunities, even highly educated individuals are vying for basic-level jobs.
Pallavi Chowkikar, an MBA graduate from Chhindwara, said she applied after failing to find a suitable position. “The only job offer I received was outside the state, but I couldn’t relocate due to family obligations. This exam felt like my only option,” she shared.
Similarly, Nidhi Dhote, who completed her MSc in Mathematics from Betul, said persistent unemployment pushed her to apply. “Even after finishing my MSc, I couldn’t get a job. A government post — no matter which one — offers stability,” she said.
For Vijay Verma from Sehore, holding both BSc and MA degrees, the motive was rooted in social prestige. “In rural areas, securing a government job earns you respect. Regardless of qualification, it’s something we all aim for,” he said.
A Reflection of the Employment Gap
The staggering number of applications highlights the widening mismatch between education levels and job availability in India. With lakhs of educated candidates competing for low-skill roles, the exam paints a sobering picture of youth unemployment and the shrinking private sector opportunities in states like Madhya Pradesh.
Experts say this surge underscores the urgent need for diversified employment avenues and job-oriented education reforms to bridge the gap between degrees and dependable work.
