Tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) remained high on Thursday as Pakistani forces continued to fire across the border for the 14th consecutive day, using mortars and heavy artillery against civilian zones in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors.

According to official sources, fresh shelling began shortly after midnight in the Karnah area of Kupwara, targeting residential areas. While no civilian injuries were reported from this specific barrage, many residents had already taken shelter elsewhere after previous strikes.

The Indian Army responded swiftly with calibrated retaliation, hitting Pakistani positions responsible for initiating the attack.

This latest spate of cross-border aggression follows India's coordinated military response—Operation Sindoor—in which nine terror-linked sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were hit with precision strikes. The operation was launched early Wednesday, targeting camps associated with terror outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

In what appears to be a retaliatory move, Pakistan began firing shells into the Karnah sector late Wednesday night. Mortar rounds exploded near civilian settlements, prompting evacuations to safer locations. Tragically, one Indian soldier, Dinesh Kumar of the 5 Field Regiment, lost his life during the escalation.

Just a day earlier, indiscriminate Pakistani shelling along both the LoC and the International Border led to the deaths of 15 Indian civilians and injured over 40 others in the Poonch and Tangdhar regions. Poonch suffered the worst casualties.

India Today TV, reporting from the affected areas, documented the extent of the destruction—homes reduced to rubble, broken glass strewn across floors, and walls cracked from repeated impacts.

Military sources confirmed that Indian counterattacks in the Kupwara and Rajouri-Poonch sectors had struck back effectively, dealing notable damage to Pakistani military facilities and reportedly causing significant enemy losses.
