Pakistan may consider withdrawing from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy if its rights to host the event are revoked due to India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan, according to a report by Dawn. Citing unnamed sources, the report suggested that the Pakistani government may instruct the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to halt all cricketing engagements with India in ICC or Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events until bilateral issues are addressed.
Additionally, the PTI agency reported that the PCB is seeking clarification from the ICC regarding the hosting of the Champions Trophy. The PCB has only been informed of India’s decision not to travel to Pakistan but has yet to receive details on a possible hybrid model, which had been used during the Asia Cup last year. Under the hybrid model, India's matches were played in Sri Lanka while the rest of the tournament took place in Pakistan.
An unnamed PCB source confirmed that there is no current discussion regarding a hybrid format for the Champions Trophy. The PCB plans to send an official email to the ICC, seeking legal clarification on India’s refusal to participate in the tournament.
The PCB is currently evaluating the situation and has yet to make any formal decisions. The board is in communication with the government to determine the next course of action, especially as they await policy guidance on handling relations with India. The source hinted at potential legal consequences for the ICC if the Pakistani government takes a strong stance on cricketing ties with India.
