Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the Indian women’s cricket team for scripting history by clinching their first-ever ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title. Describing the achievement as “truly historic,” he said the team’s success would inspire countless youngsters to embrace sports with renewed passion.
Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence.”

India’s long-cherished dream of lifting a Women’s World Cup trophy finally materialised in Navi Mumbai, where Harmanpreet Kaur and her team defeated South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final at a jam-packed Dr DY Patil Stadium. The triumph elevated India into the elite group of Women’s World Cup winners, alongside Australia, England, and New Zealand.
Extending his congratulations, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the victory was a golden chapter in Indian cricket and a proud moment for the entire nation.
