Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Washington DC for a two-day trip aimed at strengthening diplomatic and strategic ties with the United States. During the visit, he is set to meet US President Donald Trump on Thursday, February 13, for wide-ranging discussions.

The agenda for their bilateral talks includes key areas such as trade, energy, defence, security, technology, and strategic collaboration. This visit is Modi's first since Trump began his second term in office.

Upon his arrival, Modi expressed his enthusiasm for the visit through a post on X, stating his intent to further bolster the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. He emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of their citizens and a better future globally.

Modi is the fourth world leader to meet Trump after his re-election, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japan's Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan's King Abdullah II. During his stay, Modi will reside at the historic Blair House, a guest residence known for hosting prominent global figures.

Ahead of his arrival, members of the Indian diaspora gathered outside Blair House, waving both Indian and US flags. Modi greeted them warmly upon his arrival, engaging with the crowd amid cheers.

Shortly after reaching Washington, Modi held a meeting with Tulsi Gabbard, recently confirmed as the US Director of National Intelligence. Gabbard, appointed by Trump, now oversees America's 18 intelligence agencies.

This visit gains additional relevance due to recent developments concerning Indian migrants in the US. On February 5, 104 illegal Indian immigrants were deported, with US authorities identifying another 487 individuals slated for deportation, raising concerns in India.

During his US trip, Modi is also expected to meet Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump. Talks are likely to touch upon Starlink's potential launch in India. Musk is reportedly open to addressing India's security concerns, including data localization.

Before arriving in the US, Modi had a brief meeting in Paris with US Vice President JD Vance and his family, including his Indian-American wife Usha Vance and their children. Modi shared photos of the meeting online, calling it a delightful experience.

Modi's US visit follows his three-day tour of France, where he attended the International AI Action Summit and the 14th India-France CEO Forum, and held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. The leaders also visited the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) to observe fusion energy research. Additionally, they jointly inaugurated India's new consulate in Marseille, enhancing bilateral relations.
