PM Modi Launches #Plant4Mother Campaign on World Environment Day
Prime Minister Modi initiates the #Plant4Mother campaign, encouraging global tree planting in honor of mothers
05-06-2024On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the #एक_पेड़_माँ_के_नाम (#Plant4Mother) campaign by planting a Peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park, New Delhi. He encouraged people globally to plant a tree in honor of their mothers and pledge to protect trees and Mother Earth.
Highlighting the nurturing roles of Mother Earth and human mothers, Modi called on everyone to participate in this initiative. Central and State Government Departments, along with local bodies, will identify public spaces to support the campaign.
The theme for World Environment Day 2024 focuses on halting and reversing land degradation, building drought resilience, and preventing desertification. Alongside #एक_पेड़_माँ_के_नाम, there is a plan to plant 80 crore trees by September and 140 crore trees by March 2025. This massive effort involves individuals, entities, community-based organizations, and various government departments.
The Department of School Education has engaged 7.5 lakh school Eco-clubs to promote #एक_पेड़_माँ_के_नाम. Summer camps are integrating this theme with experiential learning, a core aspect of the New Education Policy, emphasizing the interrelationship between trees, mothers, and Mother Earth.
Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Centres, along with institutions like BSI, ZSI, ICFRE, and NMNH, are actively promoting awareness and tree plantation efforts. Other ministries and departments are also supporting the campaign, with youth awareness being generated through MY Bharat of the Ministry of Youth Affairs. The Ministry of External Affairs has extended this message globally, encouraging international participation in the #Plant4Mother initiative.
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, were present at the launch event.
