Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh on Wednesday, describing him as "truly multifaceted" for his ability to blend tradition with talent. The meeting was a first for Dosanjh, who called it a "very memorable interaction" and a "fantastic start to 2025."
Sharing highlights of their conversation, PM Modi posted on social media, “Had a great interaction with Diljit Dosanjh! He’s truly multifaceted, blending talent and tradition. We connected over music, culture, and more.”
Reciprocating the sentiments, Dosanjh shared, “A fantastic start to 2025. It was a very memorable meeting with PM @narendramodi Ji. We discussed many topics, including music, of course!”
During the meeting, they spoke about the significance of yoga and their shared travel experiences across India. PM Modi praised Dosanjh’s journey, saying, "When a boy from an Indian village goes out into the world and shines, it makes me very proud." He also emphasized India’s diversity as its source of strength, calling it the foundation of the nation’s vibrant society.
Dosanjh presented the Prime Minister with a commemorative poster from his recently concluded Dil-Luminati tour, which had taken him to multiple cities across India, including Ludhiana, Hyderabad, Jaipur, and Bengaluru.
The Dil-Luminati tour concluded with a grand finale in Ludhiana, where Dosanjh paid tribute to his audience with a heartfelt gesture, bowing before the crowd. However, the tour was not without challenges. A professor in Ludhiana had filed a complaint accusing the singer of promoting alcohol in his songs. Similar issues arose in Hyderabad, where Dosanjh faced legal notices over alleged glorification of alcohol and violence, and in Indore, where allegations of black-market ticket sales surfaced.
In a touching moment during one of his performances, Dosanjh dedicated his concert to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away at the age of 92 on December 26, 2025. Addressing the audience, Dosanjh said, “Today’s concert is dedicated to the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He led a very simple life and never spoke ill of anyone—a rare quality in politics.”
The meeting between PM Modi and Dosanjh highlighted the intersection of art, culture, and leadership, leaving a mark on the New Year’s cultural and political landscape.
