Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress party following a massive drug bust in Delhi, accusing them of pushing youth into drug addiction and using the proceeds to fund their election campaigns.
The Delhi Police recently seized over 560 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana, valued at approximately ₹5,620 crore, from a warehouse in Mahipalpur on October 2.
During a speech in Maharashtra, PM Modi stated, “Drugs worth thousands of crores have been recovered in Delhi. The primary accused in this case is a Congress leader. Congress is pushing the youth towards drugs and using that money to contest elections."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the government’s "zero tolerance" towards drugs, while accusing Congress of leveraging its political connections to facilitate drug trafficking. Shah noted that the Modi administration remains focused on guiding the youth toward education, sports, and innovation.
In connection with the case, five people have been arrested, including the key suspect, Tushar Goyal, who has alleged ties to the Congress party. Congress has distanced itself from Goyal, denying any current affiliation, despite his earlier position as the chairman of the RTI cell for Delhi Pradesh Congress until 2022.
Goyal's social media profiles show photos with prominent Congress figures such as MP Deepender Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress chief Uday Bhan. Congress clarified in an X post that Goyal was removed from the Youth Congress in October 2022 due to anti-party activities.
Police investigations revealed that the drugs were smuggled from different states to Delhi, with the marijuana traced back to Phuket, Thailand. The accused were allegedly planning to distribute the drugs at high-end events, including concerts and rave parties in Delhi and other metro cities.
