Travel from Noida to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is about to get much quicker. On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off two key infrastructure projects — the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi segment of the Dwarka Expressway.
With these new links, commuters will be able to reach IGI Airport from Noida in roughly 20 minutes. The projects are also expected to ease traffic on the capital’s overburdened Ring Road while offering smoother connectivity to western Delhi and NCR towns.
The UER-II, built as a new “outer ring road” for the capital, stretches 76 kilometres from Alipur to Mahipalpur near the airport. Costing around ₹7,716 crore, it runs through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, and connects to major highways leading to Chandigarh, Rohtak and Sonipat.
Alongside, the Prime Minister will also open the 29-kilometre Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway, linking the Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurugram to Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur. The Gurugram section of the road was launched earlier in March 2024.
Together, the two corridors are expected to significantly smoothen travel to the airport, Gurugram and Jaipur. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and senior BJP leaders are likely to join the launch ceremony.
According to officials, the new expressways are fully access-controlled, ensuring seamless, signal-free journeys while diverting traffic from Delhi’s busy arterial routes.
The Dwarka Expressway, built at a cost of about ₹9,000 crore, was executed in four construction packages. UER-II was developed in five phases, covering 54 km in Delhi and another 21 km in Haryana. The network includes eight lanes, service roads, four multi-level interchanges and several underpasses, designed under the Delhi Master Plan 2021.
