As Delhi grapples with scorching temperatures and a severe water shortage, the city was hit by power outages in multiple areas following a fire at a power grid in Uttar Pradesh's Mandola. The grid, responsible for supplying 1,500 megawatts of electricity to the national capital, caught fire, leading to disruptions in power supply across Delhi. With temperatures hovering around 42 degrees Celsius, the power cuts exacerbate the challenges posed by the ongoing heatwave.

Delhi Power Minister Atishi confirmed the power outage, stating that efforts are underway to restore electricity by diverting power from alternate sources. Atishi also expressed intentions to discuss the matter with the new Union Power Minister, stressing the need for collaboration to address the crisis.

The power outage comes amidst escalating tensions between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Centre, with AAP criticizing the national-level power infrastructure's failure. The incident adds to the recent clashes between AAP and the Centre-appointed Lt Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, particularly regarding the acute water crisis in the city.

Social media users took to various platforms to report the power cuts, highlighting the inconvenience faced by residents in different parts of Delhi. Complaints ranged from extended power outages to the lack of electricity in specific neighborhoods, further underscoring the severity of the situation.

This latest development compounds the challenges posed by the intense and prolonged heatwave sweeping across Delhi, with temperatures soaring above 50 degrees Celsius on certain days. The India Meteorological Department warns that heatwave conditions are expected to persist in most parts of the city, exacerbating the already dire situation.
