Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor has announced an ambitious employment initiative in Bankipur, saying he wants to help at least 10,000 families secure jobs for their children over the next one to two years.

Kishor made the announcement during his first visit to the constituency since his August 3 bypoll victory. As part of a post-election outreach programme, he travelled through Bankipur to thank voters for backing him.

Addressing residents, Kishor said he was committed to working in the constituency rather than moving on after the election. He also responded to criticism over his absence from Bankipur in the days immediately following the result.

Kishor asks families to send CVs

As part of the proposed employment initiative, Kishor has asked families with educated but unemployed children to submit their CVs and biodata at his office.

He said his professional network, built through contacts with companies and individuals across India, could be used to connect suitable candidates with private-sector opportunities.

The promise, however, comes with a qualification: Kishor said he could not guarantee government jobs. He also acknowledged that some candidates could have to leave Bihar initially if suitable employment opportunities are available elsewhere.

His stated target is to help at least 10,000 Bankipur families find employment opportunities for their children within the next one to two years.

What if Jan Suraaj forms the government?

Kishor said the approach could change if his Jan Suraaj Party eventually comes to power in Bihar.

In that scenario, he said, the larger objective would be to expand employment within Bihar itself, reducing the need for young people to migrate to other states for work.

The employment initiative is among the first major commitments announced by Kishor after his party registered its first electoral victory.

How Kishor won Bankipur

Kishor defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha in the August 3 Bankipur Assembly bypoll by a margin of 19,324 votes.

He secured 64,151 votes, compared with Sinha's 44,827. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta finished third with 14,273 votes.

The result was particularly significant because Bankipur had remained a BJP stronghold for three decades. Kishor's victory ended the party's uninterrupted run in the constituency.

He had established a lead early in the counting process and continued to widen the gap as the rounds progressed. By the 15th round of counting, out of a total of 32 rounds, his victory was effectively assured.

Jobs, education and welfare on Kishor's agenda

Immediately after the election result, Kishor said his first responsibility would be to justify the confidence placed in him by Bankipur voters.

He had also said residents should begin seeing improvements in the constituency within two to three months, while cautioning against expecting an overnight transformation.

Kishor's broader agenda for Bankipur includes employment, education, a monthly pension of Rs 1,100 and food grains as four key areas of focus.

The proposed jobs drive now becomes one of his first major tests as the newly elected MLA, with the target of helping 10,000 families find employment over the coming one to two years.
