Veteran actor Prem Chopra has been undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital since November 8 after developing chest congestion. The 89-year-old artist has spent the last three days under observation and is said to be responding well to treatment. His family shared that he should be able to return home within the next few days.
As per an update reported by IANS, doctors revealed that Chopra was admitted after complications related to a heart ailment combined with a viral and lung infection.
Sharing a health update, Dr. Jalil Parker stated, “Prem Chopra ji was admitted a couple of days ago under the care of his family cardiologist, Dr. Nitin Gokhale. He has a cardiac concern and also developed a viral and lung infection. He is stable, not in the ICU, and not in a critical state.”
Prem Chopra is regarded as one of the most iconic performers in Indian cinema, known especially for his memorable villain roles.
He began his journey in Punjabi cinema with Chaudhary Karnail Singh (1960), a film that won a National Award. Soon after, he transitioned to Hindi films, earning early praise for his performance in Shaheed (1965), one of the few films where he played a positive character.
However, it was his smooth yet intimidating on-screen villainy that cemented his legacy. From the late 1960s to the 1990s, he starred in several blockbusters including Do Raaste (1969), Kati Patang (1970), Do Anjaane (1976), Dostana (1980), and Kranti (1981), creating an unforgettable screen identity that continues to be celebrated across generations.
