Princess Kate of Wales Attends Trooping the Colour Parade Amidst Cancer Battle
Princess Kate made her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis, joining the Trooping the Colour parade alongside her family
15-06-2024Princess Kate of Wales made her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis in January, attending the annual Trooping the Colour parade at Buckingham Palace on Saturday. The 42-year-old was seen wearing a pale outfit, seated alongside her children and husband, Prince William.
During the event, which celebrates King Charles III's birthday, Kate rode in a carriage with her three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—through London. Spectators cheered as they spotted Kate in a white dress and wide-brimmed hat.
Prince William participated in the ceremony on horseback. The event, also known as Trooping the Colour, involves troops in full dress uniform parading past the king with their regimental flag, or “colour.”
King Charles, who is also undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, opted for a carriage ride with Queen Camilla instead of riding on horseback as he did the previous year, according to the Associated Press.
On Friday, Kate announced her planned appearance via social media. She shared that while she is making good progress with her preventative chemotherapy, she still has a journey ahead. Kate expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received since her cancer announcement in March.
Following her two-month public absence after undergoing major abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace revealed in March that Kate was battling cancer and would be stepping back from public duties.
"My treatment is ongoing and will continue for a few more months. I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to participate in a few public engagements over the summer. However, I know I am not out of the woods yet," she wrote on social media.
Kate is also set to join King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other senior family members on the Buckingham Palace balcony later today.
In January, the Princess spent two weeks in the hospital following major abdominal surgery. Two months later, she announced in a video message that tests had confirmed the presence of cancer, and she had started preventative chemotherapy in February. Kensington Palace has not disclosed further details regarding the type of cancer or her specific treatment regimen.
