By the early 2010s, Priyanka Chopra had already cemented her status as one of Hindi cinema’s most bankable stars. With commercial hits, critical recognition, and financial stability, she had what many would consider an ideal career foundation. Yet, she felt creatively limited and eager for new challenges.

At age 30, Chopra relocated to Los Angeles, stepping into an unfamiliar entertainment industry with no guaranteed path forward. Speaking to Variety, she described the move as intimidating, acknowledging that she consciously chose to abandon comfort in pursuit of growth.

“Starting over in your 30s is frightening,” she said, explaining that while she was well-established in India, she decided to risk it all to expand her horizons. She noted that rebuilding her career required years of persistence, resilience, and determination.

Chopra also shared that the discipline instilled in her upbringing played a key role in shaping her mindset. She emphasised the importance of accountability, commitment, and valuing one’s word — principles she continues to carry in her professional life.

Her initial phase in the US involved exploring music, including a recording partnership linked to Interscope Records, though it did not lead to long-term success. Undeterred, she shifted her focus back to acting.

During early interactions in Hollywood, Chopra noticed underlying assumptions about her background. She recalled moments where industry figures appeared surprised by her command of English, reflecting subtle cultural biases she encountered.

Her major breakthrough in American television came with the thriller series Quantico, which ran for three seasons and expanded her global recognition. She later featured in high-profile productions such as The Matrix Resurrections and The White Tiger.

Looking ahead, Chopra continues to balance international projects. She is set to appear alongside Karl Urban in The Bluff, return for Season 2 of Citadel, and join filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi.
