The announcement of Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli’s collaboration for their upcoming mega-film, tentatively titled SSMB29, has already set the film industry abuzz. Touted as a globe-trotting adventure, the project is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films in recent years.
Adding to the excitement, recent media reports suggest that Priyanka Chopra may join the cast as the female lead. If confirmed, this would mark her major return to Indian cinema after her last Bollywood outing, The Sky Is Pink in 2019.
Priyanka recently hinted at her interest in returning to Indian films during an appearance at the Red Sea Film Festival 2024. While interacting with fans, she expressed her desire to reconnect with Indian cinema, sharing, “I miss dancing and I’m close to finalizing a project for next year.” This fueled speculation about her involvement in Rajamouli’s ambitious venture. Priyanka recently wrapped up shooting for the second season of the spy series Citadel.
The film, written by Vijayendra Prasad, is expected to be a grand spectacle blending adventure and mythological themes. Reports suggest that Mahesh Babu’s character will draw inspiration from Lord Hanuman, setting the stage for a visually stunning and unique storyline. Production is set to begin in January 2025, with a release planned for 2027 or 2028. With a reported budget of Rs 1000 crores, SSMB29 promises to deliver a cinematic experience on a massive scale.
Apart from Priyanka Chopra, earlier reports suggested that Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone and international star Chelsea Elizabeth were being considered for roles in the film, though no official confirmation has been made. Additionally, Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran, known for his role in Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life, is rumored to be playing the main antagonist.
While the makers have yet to announce the full cast beyond Mahesh Babu, the speculation surrounding Priyanka Chopra’s involvement has added another layer of excitement for fans. If she joins the project, it would mark a high-profile collaboration with the Baahubali and RRR director, SS Rajamouli.
