Thousands of Hindus took to the streets in Dhaka and Chattogram on Friday, demanding action against ongoing attacks on their community since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5. Despite heavy rain, demonstrators carried placards with eight key demands, including the establishment of a fast-track tribunal to prosecute the attackers.

In Chattogram, protesters called for the creation of a separate ministry to handle minority affairs, reserved seats for minorities, and urged student protest coordinators to meet with them within 15 days. The unrest that led to Hasina's government falling and her subsequent flight to India has fueled their demands. They vowed not to leave until their requirements, including compensation and rehabilitation for affected individuals, are addressed. They also sought the introduction of a separate minority protection law and rejected any claims that they were acting as "agents" for others.

Protests in Chattogram, particularly in the Jamal Khan area, saw significant participation from women and local residents, who emphasized their identity as "Bangali" and their commitment to staying in Bangladesh. Some protesters expressed frustration with the media's coverage, claiming their voices are not being heard through mainstream outlets. They urged authorities to consider reports from Prothom Alo on the attacks.

In Dhaka, demonstrators gathered at Shahbag intersection around 4:30 p.m., causing traffic disruptions. The protest was organized by Sanatani Odhikar Andolan, a coalition of Hindu organizations, and was monitored by security forces.

The Paris-based human rights group Justice Makers Bangladesh (JMBF) condemned the recent violence against minorities, highlighting the severe human rights violations involved in the destruction of homes, businesses, and places of worship.
