Vishal Agrawal, father of a 17-year-old who killed two in a high-speed Porsche crash, was arrested in Aurangabad by Pune Police
21-05-2024The Pune Police have apprehended Vishal Agrawal, the father of a 17-year-old who crashed a speeding Porsche into a bike, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Agrawal, a real estate developer, was arrested in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, after a case was filed against him on Monday, May 20. He had been evading the police, but was caught early Tuesday morning in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar area.
The tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning when the teenager, under the influence of alcohol, ran over a couple on a two-wheeler. The minor and two others were initially detained by the police, but the 17-year-old was granted bail by a district court within 14 hours, leading to significant public outrage. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that they are seeking higher court approval to try the teenager as an adult.
Key developments in the case include the district court granting bail to the teenager with conditions, such as undergoing psychiatric evaluation and treatment, assisting the traffic police for 15 days, and writing a 300-word essay on the impact of road accidents and their solutions.
Commissioner Kumar informed India Today TV that the accused has been charged under Section 304 of the IPC, and efforts are being made to ensure the crime is recognized as heinous. Additionally, Vishal Agrawal and the bar that served alcohol to the minor face charges under Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The fatal accident took place on Sunday, May 19, when the minor, driving a high-speed Porsche without a number plate, collided with a bike, killing 24-year-olds Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. Koshta died instantly, while Awadhiya succumbed to his injuries later in the hospital.
Following the incident, CCTV footage emerged showing bystanders assaulting the teenager at the scene and another video depicting the minor and his friends drinking at a bar before the crash. An eyewitness claimed that all three occupants of the Porsche were intoxicated, and one fled the scene after the crash.
The teenager's lawyer, Prashant Patil, asserted that due legal processes are being followed, and the accused is entitled to bail. Meanwhile, the police are investigating the absence of a number plate on the car and the duration of the temporary number plate usage.
Akhilesh Awadhiya, uncle of victim Aneesh Awadhiya, criticized the bail conditions and the police's handling of the case, labeling the minor a "human bomb" and condemning the perceived leniency due to the teenager's privileged background. He called for stricter punishment in accordance with the new law, which mandates a seven-year sentence for such offenses.
