Pune Police Deny Preferential Treatment Allegations for Teen in Porsche Crash
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has refuted claims of preferential treatment for the 17-year-old involved in the fatal Porsche crash
24-05-2024Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has refuted claims that the 17-year-old boy involved in the recent Porsche accident received special treatment while in custody. Allegations had surfaced, primarily from opposition figures, suggesting that the boy, the son of a prominent real estate developer, was served "pizzas and burgers" while detained.
New details reveal that the juvenile spent a substantial amount of money—Rs 69,000—at two pubs before the tragic incident on May 19, which resulted in the deaths of two young IT professionals, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, in Kalyani Nagar. Reports indicate that the teen and his friends consumed liquor worth Rs 48,000 at Cozy Bar. After they were cut off, they continued their night at BlaK Marriott Club, spending an additional Rs 21,000.
The police investigation has uncovered that the boy, who has been sent to an observation home, had been driving without a license for several months, previously using an Audi owned by his father. Despite his claims, supported by his friends, that a family driver was at the wheel during the accident, police have questioned the driver as well as the boy's grandfather, Surendra Kumar Agarwal. The Porsche is registered under a realty firm owned by the Agarwals, and Surendra Agarwal is currently facing trial in connection with a shootout case involving payments to gangster Chhota Rajan.
The boy's father has been arrested, and following public outrage and a police review plea, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has remanded the boy to an observation home until June 5.
