Punjab's final electoral roll lists 2,01,00,727 eligible voters across the state's 117 Assembly constituencies, following a months-long revision exercise ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
The final list, released on Monday by the Chief Electoral Officer's office, shows a reduction of more than 13.6 lakh voters compared with the 2,14,61,043 electors registered before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) began. This represents a decline of approximately 6.33%.
The Election Commission undertook the exercise to update voter records by identifying deceased electors, people who had permanently moved away, absent voters and duplicate registrations.
However, the final roll has more names than the draft list published on August 13. The number of registered voters increased from 1,93,94,435 in the draft roll to 2,01,00,727 in the final version, a rise of around 3.64%.
Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra said 7,97,263 new voters had been added to the final list.
How The Punjab Voter Revision Was Conducted
The Election Commission of India ordered the SIR exercise in Punjab through a notification issued on May 14. The process formally began on June 25, with the state included in Phase III of the nationwide revision programme.
The claims and objections window remained open from August 13 to September 12. A subsequent notice and disposal process continued until October 8, allowing officials to verify entries that could not be adequately matched with existing records or contained discrepancies.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer's office, authorities issued notices to 35,49,036 electors for verification. Of those, 86,038 were ultimately classified as ineligible.
The revised electoral roll comes ahead of Punjab's next Assembly election, expected to be held in February 2027. The final list will serve as the updated voter record for the state's 117 constituencies, subject to any further changes permitted under election rules.
