Ranveer Singh is enjoying one of the strongest phases of his career, with his latest release Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, racing close to the ₹600 crore nett milestone. Buoyed by the film’s exceptional performance, the actor has reportedly decided to step away from Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s upcoming project Don 3, choosing instead to realign his slate with more varied and unconventional stories.
According to industry sources quoted by Pinkvilla, Singh has become highly selective following Dhurandhar’s success. The actor is said to be keen on collaborating with filmmakers such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Atlee, while consciously avoiding being typecast in successive gangster-driven roles. Since Dhurandhar already firmly places him in that space, Singh reportedly felt another similar character could limit his range.
As part of this shift, Ranveer has asked director Jai Mehta to advance the shooting schedule of Pralay, a project backed by Applause Entertainment. The film, which is said to revolve around a zombie apocalypse, follows a man fighting against extreme odds to protect his family. Singh is reportedly eager to bring the film on floors sooner than initially planned and has been personally involved in reorganising dates to fast-track production.
Insiders suggest that this recalibration of priorities came immediately after Dhurandhar hit theatres. While Singh was earlier expected to begin prep for Don 3, the plan has now been put on hold, with the actor choosing to explore fresh genres instead of continuing with crime-heavy narratives.
Despite Ranveer’s reported exit, Don 3 remains in development. Kriti Sanon has already been locked in as the female lead, and the makers are said to be planning a large-scale shoot across multiple European locations. The film is expected to usher in a new chapter in the iconic Don franchise.
For Ranveer Singh, however, the post-Dhurandhar phase appears to be about reinvention—balancing commercial success with creative variety and carefully curating the next stage of his cinematic journey.
