An alleged audio recording involving Suman Mandanna, the mother of actor Rashmika Mandanna, has been widely circulated on social media, prompting the actor to issue a strong response.
The clip, which is being shared across several online platforms, reportedly originates from an interview given many years ago. It surfaced shortly after Rashmika’s marriage to Vijay Deverakonda on February 26 this year.
Although the recording has recently gained traction online, reports suggest that it is from an interview Suman Mandanna gave to a Kannada media outlet nearly eight years ago.
The audio reportedly discusses the period when Rashmika was engaged to actor Rakshit Shetty.
The two actors met while working on the Kannada film Kirik Party in 2016 and later announced their engagement in 2017. However, the relationship ended the following year when both publicly confirmed their decision to call off the engagement.
According to reports, the interview featured Suman Mandanna speaking about disagreements between the families during that time. She claimed that tensions gradually increased during the engagement period and that several arguments took place.
In the recording, she also alleged that there were disputes over Rashmika’s career choices. One example mentioned was when Rashmika received an opportunity to star in Geetha Govindam, which reportedly led to pressure for her to step away from acting.
The interview also described an incident before the film’s release when Rashmika was allegedly asked to travel urgently to meet Rakshit.
During the conversation, Suman Mandanna reportedly spoke emotionally about the events surrounding the engagement.
She claimed that disagreements escalated between the families and said she felt unsupported during one particular argument. According to her account, a demand was eventually made that Rashmika should publicly announce on social media that she would quit acting after marriage.
The clip also includes her questioning why she was expected to apologise despite believing she had done nothing wrong.
After the clip began circulating widely, Rashmika Mandanna released a detailed statement on X (formerly Twitter) addressing the controversy.
In her statement, the actor said she has faced misinformation and online attacks for several years but had largely chosen to remain silent.
However, she said the latest development crossed a line because it involved her family and private conversations.
Rashmika said the audio appeared to be part of a private discussion from years ago that was allegedly recorded and shared without consent. She also claimed that only a portion of the conversation was being circulated in a way that distorted its context.
The actor further stated that spreading the clip amounted to an invasion of privacy and the sharing of misleading content.
She asked media outlets, influencers and individuals sharing the audio to remove it immediately. Rashmika also warned that if the content continued to circulate, she would initiate legal action against those responsible.
According to her statement, legal notices could be issued to individuals and organisations involved in distributing what she described as defamatory or privacy-violating material.
Rashmika concluded by urging people and media platforms to respect personal boundaries and avoid amplifying content that could harm individuals and families.
