Ratan Tata, the iconic industrialist and philanthropist, was cremated on Thursday following a state funeral accorded by the Maharashtra government. His funeral followed the Parsi community's rituals and took place at an electric crematorium. Tata, who passed away on Wednesday, was mourned by millions, with tributes pouring in from all walks of life.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who hailed Tata as a "unique blend of morality and entrepreneurship," declared a state-wide day of mourning to honor the legendary leader. Tata’s body was kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point, South Mumbai, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, allowing the public to pay their last respects. It was later moved to Worli crematorium for the final rites.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, and several prominent figures, including business leaders like the Ambanis, attended the funeral to offer their respects.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office (CMO) announced that the national flag on government offices would be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect, with all entertainment events suspended for the day. Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar also confirmed that all government programs scheduled for Thursday were canceled in mourning.

In a tribute post on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Shinde praised Tata's legacy, recalling his leadership of the Tata Group, which spans over 150 years. "Ratanji Tata was a living legend who led the Tata Group with a tradition of excellence and integrity. His mental toughness and decisiveness propelled the Tata Group to new industrial heights," Shinde tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief over Tata’s passing, calling him a visionary business leader and compassionate human being. "Ratan Tata Ji was not only a visionary leader but also a compassionate soul. He provided stable leadership to one of India’s oldest and most prestigious business houses. His humility, kindness, and commitment to improving society endeared him to many," said PM Modi.

The entire nation joined in mourning the loss of one of India’s most revered industrialists, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
