Amid rising controversies, the release of the upcoming biographical political drama Emergency, which marks Kangana Ranaut's directorial debut, has been postponed, according to sources from India Today.

A source close to Kangana's team confirmed the delay, noting that the actor-turned-politician and Mandi Lok Sabha MP remains optimistic that the film will be released within the next 10 days. The new release date is still being finalized due to complications with the censor board and recent death threats against Kangana. Despite these obstacles, she is determined to ensure the film reaches audiences as soon as possible.

This postponement follows Kangana's recent allegations that the film's certification has been "stopped" after members of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) received threats.

In a video posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kangana clarified, "There are rumors that Emergency has received a censor certificate, but this is not true. While the film was initially cleared, certification has now been halted due to numerous threats, including death threats to Censor Board members. We are being pressured to remove significant content, such as the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Bhindranwale, and the Punjab riots. This situation is deeply concerning, and I am disheartened by the current state of affairs in our country."

The controversy surrounding the film began weeks earlier when a 2.43-minute trailer was released on August 14. The trailer portrayed Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, leader of the separatist Khalistan movement, as a manipulative figure who promised to deliver votes to Congress in exchange for a separate Sikh state. In response, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) sent letters to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, calling for the film to be banned. The DSGMC claimed that the trailer "misrepresents the Sikh community" and could "incite hatred."

Meanwhile, Sikh community leaders in Telangana expressed concerns about the film's release in the state. In response, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy assured them that the state government would consider banning the film, pending legal review.
