Rohit Sharma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his praise following India's victory in the T20 World Cup held in the West Indies and the United States. On May 29, the Men in Blue secured their first ICC title in 11 years by defeating South Africa by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Defending a target of 176, India faced intense pressure, but their bowlers maintained their composure to secure the win. This victory marked the end of Rohit Sharma's T20I career, during which he became the leading run-scorer in the format. Prime Minister Modi commended Rohit's outstanding career and expressed his pleasure in speaking with him earlier.

“You are excellence personified. Your aggressive mindset, batting, and captaincy have given a new dimension to the Indian team. Your T20 career will be remembered fondly. Delighted to have spoken to you earlier today,” PM Modi posted on 'X'.

In response, the 37-year-old Rohit expressed his elation over the team's success and the joy it brought to millions of fans in India.

“Thank you so much @narendramodi sir for your kind words. The team and I are very proud to be able to bring the cup home and are truly touched by how much happiness it has brought everyone back home,” Rohit replied.

Rohit had a stellar tournament, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer with 257 runs in 8 matches, averaging 36.71 and maintaining a strike rate of 156.70, including three half-centuries and a top score of 92.

Along with Rohit, former captain Virat Kohli and veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also announced their retirement from T20Is.
