Sai Pallavi has become the subject of an online debate after a video of her discussing Ravana at the Los Angeles premiere of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana circulated on social media. While some viewers criticised her remarks, others argued that her comments about the mythological figure were being interpreted without their broader context.

The premiere was held on October 27, ahead of the film’s scheduled theatrical release on November 5, 2026. The epic stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash.

During a red carpet interaction, Pallavi spoke about the film’s potential to introduce international audiences to Indian culture and the country’s mythological stories. However, her observations about Ravana became the focus of online discussions.

Explaining how the epic could encourage personal reflection, the actor said believers could look at the story as an opportunity to recognise their own shortcomings and work towards correcting them.

“Ravana is not all bad,” Pallavi said, adding that people should identify the Ravana within themselves and make changes over time.

Her remarks prompted sharply differing responses, with the debate centring on whether her words were appropriate in the context of the revered epic.

Social media divided over the actor’s comments

Several users objected to Pallavi’s choice of words, arguing that the statement could invite unnecessary controversy. One user cautioned that such remarks should be avoided because they could fuel negativity and public criticism.

Another commenter questioned the statement by referring to Ravana’s abduction of Sita, a central episode in the Ramayana.

Others, however, defended the actor’s interpretation. One user argued that describing Ravana as “not all bad” simply acknowledged that a person could possess both positive and negative qualities, adding that the observation was not inherently controversial.

Some users also suggested that Pallavi was already facing substantial online criticism and expressed concern that her comments could expose her to further backlash.

Defending her point, another user said the actor was drawing a comparison between Ravana and the inner flaws people need to confront, rather than praising the character.

The discussion highlights the different ways audiences interpret references to characters from religious and mythological narratives, particularly when such comments emerge during the promotion of a major film adaptation.

‘Ramayana’ to release in two parts

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is planned as a two-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic. Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi portrays Sita, and Yash appears as Ravana.

The first instalment is scheduled to release worldwide on November 5, 2026. The second part is slated to arrive during Diwali 2027.

With the first film approaching its theatrical debut, the Los Angeles premiere has brought renewed attention to the project, with Pallavi’s remarks becoming a talking point even before audiences see the film.
