Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, 54, was seriously injured during an attempted burglary at his residence in Mumbai's Bandra area late Wednesday night. According to Mumbai Police, the attacker entered the upscale apartment through the fire escape staircase and remained there for hours before the incident occurred. Saif, who sustained multiple stab wounds during the struggle, underwent surgery for a severe spinal cord injury and is now in stable condition.

Incident Details

The attack took place at around 2:30 a.m. in the children’s room when a house help spotted the intruder and raised the alarm. Hearing the commotion, Saif rushed to the room and confronted the intruder, leading to a violent altercation. The actor was stabbed six times during the struggle, and the house help sustained minor injuries to her hand while trying to intervene. Another female staff member was also injured but was discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment.

Suspect’s Entry and Escape

Authorities revealed that the intruder used the building’s fire escape stairs to gain access to Saif Ali Khan's home and was inside the residence for hours before the attack. The Mumbai Police have formed ten teams to track down the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after the incident. The intruder's identity has been established, and investigators are working to apprehend him.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dixit Gedam stated, "The accused used the fire escape stairs to enter the residence with what appears to be the intent to commit burglary. He has been identified, and ten teams are actively pursuing the case."

Investigation and Evidence

The Mumbai Police have analyzed 25 to 30 CCTV footage clips from the building and surrounding areas to trace the suspect’s movements. While CCTV visuals captured the intruder on the sixth floor, no footage from two hours before the incident shows unauthorized entry into the society. This has led authorities to question five staff members employed by Khan, as well as laborers working on a renovation project in the building, to gather additional details.

To further aid the investigation, police examined mobile dump data from the area, which helped identify the suspect. A forensic team has also collected evidence from the crime scene.

Security Concerns

Initial findings suggest the building's security guard did not witness any unauthorized entry during the night. This has raised questions about the building's security protocols and prompted police to investigate how the intruder managed to access the fire escape stairs unnoticed.

Saif Ali Khan’s Recovery

The actor’s family and staff immediately rushed him to the hospital after the attack. According to officials, Saif is out of danger and recovering well. His wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children, Taimur and Jeh, were at home during the incident but were unharmed.

Legal Action

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed based on a complaint lodged by the house help, who has been named the primary complainant in the case.
