Bollywood actor Salman Khan has secured a major approval for the construction of a new multi-storey residence in Mumbai's Bandra, bringing the Khan family's long-planned housing project a step closer to reality.
The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) granted clearance for the proposal during its meeting on June 16, allowing work to proceed on a six-storey residential building in Bandra's Chimbai locality.
Despite the approval, there has been no official confirmation that Salman Khan intends to shift from Galaxy Apartments, his well-known residence where he has lived for decades.
According to officials, the property earmarked for the new development is owned by Salman's mother, Salma Khan. The site previously housed a two-storey structure that reportedly existed before 1956 but was later demolished after being declared unsafe.
The approved project includes a stilt level for parking, a ground floor and six additional residential floors, with a total built-up area of approximately 1,014 square metres. The project is being developed by Sach Developers.
The proposal had already received the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Intimation of Disapproval (IOD) in October 2025, which serves as an important preliminary construction clearance. The latest environmental approval now clears another significant regulatory hurdle before construction begins.
As part of the conditions imposed by the authorities, developers have been directed not to remove any existing trees from the site. Instead, native tree species will be planted around the property as part of the environmental compliance requirements.
The project also comes against the backdrop of heightened security concerns surrounding the actor. Salman Khan's security was strengthened after a firing incident outside Galaxy Apartments more than two years ago, allegedly linked to members of the Bishnoi gang. The actor currently remains under Y+ security protection.
Located on a quieter internal road in Bandra, the new property is expected to provide the Khan family with improved privacy and enhanced security compared to their current residence.
