Samay Raina Addresses Controversy with Humor During Canada Tour
Comedian Samay Raina broke his silence on the 'India's Got Latent' controversy while performing in Edmonton, blending humor with resilience
20-02-2025Samay Raina, currently touring Canada with his stand-up show 'Samay Raina Unfiltered,' has addressed the controversy surrounding his online series, 'India's Got Latent.' The comedian faced backlash after YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, made an inappropriate remark involving parents and sex during an episode of the show.
Raina broke his silence on the matter while performing in Edmonton, Canada. Taking the stage with a touch of humor, he opened his set by saying, “Thanks for paying my lawyer's fees.” The comment drew laughter from the audience and lightened the atmosphere amid the ongoing controversy.
A viral Facebook post by an audience member named Shubham Dutta shared details of the emotional atmosphere during the show. Writing in Bengali, Dutta described how he witnessed the crowd of nearly seven hundred cheering for Raina as the comedian appeared visibly emotional before starting his performance. “The show must go on—I understood the real meaning of this phrase today,” Dutta wrote.
During his set, Raina humorously referred to the controversy, saying, “There will be many moments during this show when you might expect me to say something really funny, but in those moments, just remember BeerBiceps.” He ended the segment with a wordplay on his name, adding, “Maybe my time is tough right now, but remember, I am Samay (Time).”
Prior to his performance in Edmonton, Raina announced the removal of all 'India's Got Latent' videos from his YouTube channel. In a public statement, he expressed his distress over the situation, saying, “Everything that has happened has been overwhelming. I have taken down all videos related to 'India's Got Latent.' My intention was always to entertain and bring joy. I will cooperate fully with the authorities to ensure the matter is resolved fairly. Thank you for your support.”
The controversy began after Allahbadia asked a contestant a distasteful question: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?” The offensive comment triggered outrage on social media and led to legal action.
As Raina navigates this challenging period, his resilience and humor continue to resonate with his audience, emphasizing the age-old mantra in show business—the show must go on.
