Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan’s 60th birthday celebration took an unexpected turn on Saturday night when the actor was advised against greeting his fans outside his Mumbai residence, Mannat, due to safety concerns. The superstar, known for his annual tradition of waving to thousands of admirers gathered outside his Bandra home, shared the update with fans on social media — leaving many disheartened but understanding.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Jawan star wrote, “Have been advised by authorities that I will not be able to step out and greet all you lovely people who have been waiting for me (sic).”

In a heartfelt follow-up, Khan apologised to his devoted followers, saying, “My deepest apologies to all of you but have been informed that it is for the overall safety of everyone due to crowd control issues. Thank you for understanding and believe me, I will miss seeing you more than you will. Was looking forward to seeing you all and sharing love. Love u all (sic).”

Fans, who had gathered outside Mannat for hours, expressed both disappointment and support online. One admirer wrote, “The streets of Mumbai miss you tonight, but hearts everywhere are full.” Another commented, “Your safety and everyone’s well-being come first, King. Your love reaches us even without the balcony wave.”

For decades, the sight of Shah Rukh Khan greeting fans from his balcony has been an iconic part of his birthday celebrations — a moment eagerly anticipated by fans from across India and abroad. Thousands typically assemble outside Mannat each year, holding posters, chanting his name, and waiting for a glimpse of their beloved “King Khan.”

This year, however, authorities reportedly urged the actor to skip the ritual, citing crowd management and safety challenges.

While the Pathaan actor couldn’t step out to meet his fans in person, his message of love and gratitude ensured that the spirit of celebration carried on across social media — proving, once again, that his connection with fans goes far beyond physical appearances.
