A day after Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya criticized Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed for her now-deleted tweet fat-shaming Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma, she has responded by pointing out BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s past remarks against the cricketer.
Mohamed resurfaced an old tweet from Ranaut, where the Bollywood actor had made derogatory comments about Sharma for his stance on the farmers' protests in 2021. Calling out the BJP’s silence on that incident, Mohamed questioned Mandaviya and his party’s selective outrage.
Highlighting Ranaut’s now-deleted tweet, Mohamed took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "What does @mansukhmandviya have to say to @KanganaTeam! #JustAsking."
Past Controversy Resurfaces
Back in 2021, Rohit Sharma had tweeted in support of farmers, emphasizing the importance of resolving the protests peacefully. In response, Ranaut had posted a derogatory message, attacking Sharma for his stance. Mohamed has now questioned why BJP leaders did not call out Ranaut at the time, yet are targeting her over her remarks on Sharma’s fitness.
Fat-Shaming Controversy
On Monday, Mandaviya led BJP’s criticism against Mohamed’s comments, calling them "deeply shameful and pathetic." The controversy began after Mohamed posted a tweet criticizing Sharma’s physique and leadership skills, stating, "Rohit Sharma is overweight for a sportsperson! He needs to lose weight! And of course, he is the most unimpressive captain India has ever had!"
She further added, "What is so world-class about him compared to his predecessors? He is a mediocre captain and player who just got lucky to lead Team India."
These comments surfaced as Sharma led the Indian team in the ongoing Champions Trophy. However, her remarks sparked backlash, including criticism from members of her own party. Following the uproar, the Congress leadership reportedly asked Mohamed to delete her post immediately.
