Veteran actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha has firmly denied reports suggesting that he is associated with a faction allegedly challenging the leadership within the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Addressing growing speculation, the Asansol MP made it clear that he remains committed to party chief Mamata Banerjee and has no intention of distancing himself from her leadership.

The rumours gained momentum after a social media post in which Sinha extended congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 12 years in office. The message, which also tagged Mamata Banerjee, sparked political chatter and led to speculation about his future within the party.

As discussions intensified, Sinha publicly rejected claims that he was part of any dissenting group within the TMC. He described the reports as baseless and stressed that his political loyalty remains firmly with Mamata Banerjee.

The parliamentarian stated that Banerjee had supported him during difficult phases of his political career and that he would continue to stand by her during challenging times. He also recalled that his entry into electoral politics in West Bengal came at her encouragement, making his association with the party deeply significant.

Emphasising his commitment, Sinha said he has no plans to leave the Trinamool Congress and remains grateful for the trust placed in him by the party leadership.

From BJP Veteran to TMC Leader

Shatrughan Sinha began his political journey with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he served for several years and held important responsibilities, including a stint as a Union minister.

After parting ways with the BJP over ideological disagreements, he joined the Congress and contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Patna Sahib. However, he was unsuccessful in that contest.

In 2022, Sinha joined the Trinamool Congress and subsequently won the Asansol Lok Sabha by-election. He later retained the seat in the 2024 general elections, strengthening his position within the party.

Speculation Amid Political Developments

The latest controversy emerged against the backdrop of reports regarding differences among some TMC leaders. Sinha's social media message praising Prime Minister Modi was interpreted by some observers as a possible political signal, leading to speculation about his alignment.

However, his latest clarification appears aimed at ending those rumours and reaffirming his place within the Trinamool Congress.

By publicly expressing support for Mamata Banerjee, Sinha has sought to underline that despite political speculation, his allegiance to the party leadership remains unchanged.
